The beautiful art really helps integrate all this into an immersive campaign. The action cards are discarded. The Geminate’s amazing damage capabilities at level 1 come with serious challenges that make you wonder how this made it as one of the six starting classes in Frosthaven. The markers are stickers that match the map background but reveal the new location — cut so exactly, that they even separate correctly at the folding points of the map board. Each stance has four symbols indicating a switch in stance at the end of the turn. When you can no longer play two cards on your turn, or when you fall to zero health (or less), you are exhausted and out for the rest of the scenario. Considering how many elements the Geminate can make use of, I feel like these should be high priority perks. There is a catch. But it’s not a world of elves, orcs, and dwarves; it has an array of unique species such as Vermling, Quatryl, Inox, and so forth, and the monsters are also varied. Nothing we haven’t seen in Gloomhaven before, but compared to the left stance, this movement is fantastic, especially with being able to move through figures and terrain. I’ve been introducing this game to middle-school kids and we’ve started a mini-craze! While a character is injured, they are unable to use items until the end of their next turn. It’s here that over the course of the game, players will be able to construct new structures that have gameplay implications. Again, I love the thematic presence of this swarm just devouring everything in its path. The type of resources found in the loot deck will be specific to the current scenario. New players will likely have an easier time jumping in by starting with the Drifter or Banner Spear class. However, all six classes are leaning into the more puzzle-esque nature of Frosthaven‘s core mechanics and I’m thrilled to see the series play to its strengths. Tabletop Simulator is an independent video game that allows players to play and create tabletop games in a multiplayer physics sandbox. The small outpost of Frosthaven is under siege from three mysterious factions looking to destroy the struggling outpost. This will significantly limit the class’ ability to spam fast actions and force players to plan their actions ahead of time, setting up for a flurry of fast attacks and kills two to three rounds on. Print and play versions of the character cards for both Frosthaven and Jaws of the Lion are available. Before writing these, we are playtesting the classes in the Frosthaven Demo on Tabletop Simulator. However, if injure is ever combined with bane characters will have to depend on each other more than ever for survival. Notice that none of those attacks are loss abilities, so you’ll get a lot of use out of these, but be careful, as Hornet Stinger and Flailing Tendrils also damage allies.
