We would like to do this again this season and go all the way to the summit. Beginning was a little weird going under the tunnel but it was short, after that it was a beautiful hike! The “peak” is a pile of rocks on the trail, among the trees that block your view. and follow for 0.8 miles. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. This is by far my favorite short hike in my locale. From Bennington, take Rte 9 for about 4.0 miles east to Harbor Road. Not many bugs for a mid morning hike. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Nice low-key hike. From Rte 9, turn north on North Branch St., which is ¾ mile east of downtown Bennington. Overall a great hike. Lots of signage makes it easy to follow even through overlap with other trails. Might be better when leaves fall. This one is mostly a stroll in the woods. The new trail goes over areas filled with freshly blasted rock, which can treacherous in wet condition. We couldn’t seem to find any clearings for a nice landscape shot near the top like many photos I’ve seen from this trail. It gets tougher toward the top, and I was fooled twice into thinking we had reached the summit (at white rocks, there’s still quite a bit to go). We did this hike on a very humid and hot day - so we appreciated the tree cover for the majority of the hike. Great Trail! “White Rocks” is a section of the Bald Mountain Trail, located in Bennington, VT. Basically, you stop at the beautiful lookout (pictured above) and head back from there, rather than going for the summit. Take plenty of water: there are few ascends that will break your sweat. I really love what this trail has to offer all wrapped into a 2.4 mile, 1548' elevation change. Kocher Drive runs straight into North Branch Street Extension at a light. With a few breaks, it took us about an hour and 1/2 on the way up and an hour down. But stop by at the summit, for a moment of silence, when you pass by remains of an aircraft that crashed at the mountain few years ago..... Great hike! The east side of the Bald Mountain trail (nearer Woodford) travels 2 miles, with 1580' elevation change, to the junction of with the West Ridge Trail. Moderate, but fairly long. For the trail leading out of Bennington: For those looking for a climbing challenge and a view at the top, this isn’t the trail for you. to the power transmission line crossing (limited parking). i suggest not going after rain as the bottom gets a little muddy. It can be strenuous for those who are not in shape with many opportunities to twist an ankle on the decent because of the rocky terrain. On a sunny day bring a lot of water!!! Lovely view of Bennington and the Green Mountain State Forest. Saw 5 groups of hikers, but everyone was nicely spread out. We left a car at either end (Bennington at North Branch St and Woodford at Harbour Rd) which made the hike about a 6 miles total. From Route 7, take Kocher Drive, which is just north of downtown Bennington, east. The trip down- much easier. Good trail although we lost it about 1/2 mile in but picked it up again with the help of the app. A portion of the West Ridge trail to the summit of Glastenbury. Little hard to find the trial head....you need to turn left at the concrete water tank and we just parked on the left side in the grass. WARNING: once you are starting out on the trail, their is a power plant nearby and there are a bunch of other trails that veer off in different directions. Good long trek with some steep spots near the white rocks.
