Awesome, I’m glad, thanks! She can run away or participate in the combat, choosing a side to support. I like how it is modular, etc. I was intrigued by the overall threat and the fact that we could invade their colony with just one dude with a weapon and hold it for a bit. I have dead of winter and waring colonies. We played the "Ant and the Grasshopper" mission, which was a medium length with 5 rounds, and centered around accumulating lots of food or the enemy colony reaches 0 morale, as a win condition. It seems like they're really doubling down on the success of Dead of Winter and shoving this big monstrosity out there. The game ended during the 4th round of play by the enemy colony losing morale because of character deaths as the result of us making a big push to storm the enemy colony. But it took so fucking long. I just think warring colonies takes a little away from the initial point of Dead of Winter, which was survival, and emphasises combat with others too much.. And although we could reasonably assume that most of the other team didn't have their secret objectives met yet, that it was still in most peoples' best interests to not bring the game to a close too early. You know what comes next… Nothing? Also, because 1 member for each colony (2 people in total) take their movements and actions simultaneously, which effectively halves what would otherwise be downtime, the game moved along quickly enough. Each mission card has a trigger condition. Others, like Conclave of the Ash and Villain generate a force of chaos that both colonies must find ways to work around. I found that the decisions were critical enough that everyone was involved in each player turn so it didn't feel like downtime. I, for one, have been enjoying Dead of Winter: The Long Night. Good times! After a few moments you open your eyes to the sight of a lone figure, surrounded by headless corpses, wiping down a blade and heading your way…. This was FUN! No, but I think the fact that it now team based and the Lone Wolf can basically act as a Kingmaker kind of pushes it from "unbalanced" to "unfun". The enemy colony (according to me) started accumulating food fast. The #1 reddit source for news, information, and discussion about modern board games and board game culture. As far as downtime goes, even with a very high player count, it was a non-issue for us completely... or for me, anyway. I still think the base game of DoW by itself is my favorite way to play. Warring Colonies just doesn't seem like it's going to work. That's right, wasn't the next game supposed to be space themed? I’m really glad you wrote this. Also, don't forget to check out Dead of Winter, the new comic from Oni Press arriving this August! I think that the shared crisis is ridiculous game design idea. People kept talking over each other. Play report: 9 player game of Dead of Winter: Warring Colonies (+ Lone Wolf) Setup and Context I sent out invites for a game night and to my surprise I got 9 people to RSVP as attending, so I decided it was time to get Warring Colonies to the table for what would hopefully be an epic battle amongst friends.
