First, Crossroads cards are drawn, followed by survivor movement. You need to scavenge, keep morale high, and keep your motley crew of people alive though the zombie apocalypse. Survivors can even move to an enemy colony. Lone Wolf allows for an ever number of players to play (5 or higher), with one player not belonging to any of the two colonies. This is the latest expansion for Dead of Winter in which two teams of players join up in rivaling colonies to duke it ... goes for main objective cards. It is true that the former had to be subdued in order for the latter to work, that's however logical design-wise. It is very likely to be the only game you will play in an evening. One or two are admittedly adolescent or weird, none however stroke me as crass or in bad taste. Warring Colonies comes with 15 new survivors, 50 new crossroad cards, 43 new items, and 11 new crisis cards, many of which can be used in any game of Dead of Winter. This is a DoW fiesta for people who already know the game and enjoy it, and who would like to take it to the next level against human opponents. The intra-colony infighting has been toned down, this is only however due to the fact that there is another colony to fight. It's tough fighting them zombies and all. It is not an independent game, it has quite the number of prerequisites in order to play it, yet it costs as high as USD 40. The game is extremely replayable, provided that you can find the number of gamers it requires at the level of knowledge that makes the game enjoyable. The Player Turns is now broken down to four parts. Warring Factions lasts a lot longer than a standard game of DoW irrespective of starter set. And we'll do anything it takes to keep it that way. The Survivors Action Girl: The women fight as ably as the men. A player wins the game by fulfilling his secret objective, something that usually includes his colony also meeting the main objective. The Crossroads cards remained pompous, yet they continue to provide a constant stream of quality narrative. The amount of table space that this game needs is extraordinary. There are a few differences in execution in relation to some of these actions. They will simultaneously select and reveal a tactics card, add bonuses for the number of survivors and the number of weapons they carry, secretly bid and simultaneously reveal bullets from their colony's supply, and roll the combat die. Combat is not a coin toss; on the contrary, it underlines the thinking man's game process that the colony leader at that point should follow. Dead of Winter: The Long Night is an interesting game.In it you start off with a set number of characters, setting out to survive through the winter. Do not leave the colony unattended for any reason, don't get into fights just because you are feeling trigger-happy, and don't neglect to keep a big stockpile of bullets. You don't need to know the rules only, but also some of the tactics that the game uses. It can, and it will. Duration remains constant at around two hours per game, even though the number of players the expansion can accommodate range from 4 to 11 (! The greatest enemy of mankind is man himself. The strong points: Pitting the colony against a human intelligence, even if that wasn't another colony but a human baddie of sorts was one of the first things DoW players thought when the game came out. Additionally, if you own all three, play the new epic colony vs colony variant for 4-11 players! Review of Dead of Winter: Warring Colonies. This is a zombie-themed game after all. We're survivors. When a colony drops to zero morale, it will lose the game. The highest total wins. Quick Play forces the sand timer to two minutes from the moment the players start their actions, creating a faster and tenser game. Do not dream of playing Warring Colonies before you have been exposed to either version of the basic game for at least a handful of plays. This might be to drop the other colony's morale to 0, or to cooperate so that both colonies survive five rounds with five food at their disposal. Having two colonies on the board by definition means that you will only have a limited idea about what the other colony is doing.
